From Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 2007 collection, this satchel is not as plain as it appears. One side sports leopard print Italian leather while the other coordinates with a pebble grain leather panel with a zip pocket and buckled straps. It's business on one side, animal fashion on the other. The interior has zip and cell phone pockets and the bag is a roomy 36 inches wide by 22 inches high.

  • Armani, with attitude 2007-07-17 10:50:21

It began with Giorgio Armani's "Rock Symphony" and ended at midnight Wednesday with a barefoot Courtney Love in a Givenchy couture gown belting out "Samantha" until even the wrought iron banisters of the august Paris fashion house were shaking.

So the haute couture autumn/winter season rocked? Not exactly. Although the former model Claudia Schiffer dressed as a "Libertine" as seen through the lens of Karl Lagerfeld - the image unveiled at a party awash in Dom Pérignon Champagne - did suggest the rock-the-baroque scenario of Sofia Coppola's movie "Marie Antoinette."

  • Fashion icon Claiborne dies 2007-06-29 10:56:00

Fashion designer Liz Claiborne has died in New York at the age of 78.

According to her personal assistant, Gwen Satterfield, the iconic label owner had been suffering from cancer for a number of years. She passed away at the New York Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday.

Claiborne revolutionised working women's wardrobes in the 1970s and 1980s, by creating stylish, but affordable clothing.

With husband Art Ortenberg and partners Leonard Boxer and Jerome Chazen, she launched her label in 1976 after working for years as a relatively unknown dress designer.

Claiborne and her husband retired from the day-to-day operations in 1989.

  • Ferre fashion show goes ahead without desi... 2007-06-26 14:19:27

A week after Italian designer Gianfranco Ferre died the fashion house that bears his name presented its summer show for men to a tearful audience that gave him a posthumous ovation.

Warm applause broke out as each male model presented a design by Ferre.

When the show was over the audience of guests, journalists, buyers and professionals - many weeping or obviously in the grip of emotion - rose to their feet and applauded for 10 minutes.

"Of couse I'm moved and the parade today was the right place to pay tribute to this personality who was in my view the only person capable of creating high-fashion level ready-to-wear," Mario Boselli, president of the national fashion chamber, told AFP at the Milan show.

The collection followed Ferre's preliminary designs and showed a selection of items tailored in very fluid dark blue materials, used both for formal and casual wear.
